Top 7 things to do in Jaipur , Rajasthan
Updated: Oct 29, 2020
Jaipur ,the capital of Rajasthan is a popular location for shooting period dramas and the best weekend get away for the Delhi NCR people.
To get the best of the city, one must travel like a localite; prefer public transport, eat the local food and shop from the local market.
I recently visited Jaipur for the second time and so I thought of curating a list of the places you MUST visit / things you MUST do in the 'pink city'.
1. Hawa Mahal
The Hawa Mahal was basically built for the women of the Jaipur gharana so that they could get to know about the happenings of the city and enjoy the festivities without being seen. The structure is made of pink sandstone and the view from the top of the structure is amazing. Jantar Mantar is a 10 minute walk from the place and can be easily spotted from the Hawa Mahal.
Tip: Don't forget to carry your student ID ( if you have one ) for great discounts on the tickets.

2. Eat local food
The Jaipur trip can't be complete without tasting the local food. A four minute walk from the Hawa Mahal , one can spot the 'pink' shops. One must try kadhi-kachodi, moong dal pakodi and lassi at the local market.
3. Amer fort
Amer fort, also known as the Amber fort has a wonderful architecture with a Mughal touch. Several films like padmavat and bajirao mastani have been shot in the Amer fort. The fort has a beautiful Shish Mahal. It also houses the Shila Mata temple , the 27 offices and the diwan- e -aam. Local vendors selling beautiful earrings, wall hangings , tote bags etc. are a common sight here. Again, don't forget to carry your student ID.

4. Jaigarh fort
The world's largest cannon is placed in the Jaigarh fort. Several scenes of the film 'jodha-akbar' were shot here. The gallery of weapons marks the uniqueness of the fort.
One can enjoy the camel ride , take 'Instagrammable' pictures and enjoy the history of the place.

5. Jal Mahal
The Jal Mahal is on the outskirts of the city and is marked by its tranquility. The place is decently crowded yet manages to be peaceful. The local market set up near the Jal Mahal is a good place to buy souvenirs for family and friends. Colourful bandhani dupattas, key chains, oxidised earrings are available here at decent prices.

6. Jaipur Literature Festival ( JLF)
The Jaipur literature festival is an annual literary festival that takes place in Jaipur every year. People from all over the world come to attend the JLF. This year it took place from 23 January to 27 January 2020. It is a great platform for new authors to launch their books. The festival is attended by several celebrities like Manish Malhotra, Ravish Kumar , Dia Mirza and all kinds of literary stars.

7. Visit the cafes
Jaipur has some great cafes and you must visit atleast one of them. I would recommend the Tapri cafe in C Scheme. The terrace cafe offers great food and overall it's a beautiful place to celebrate chai and great conversations with friends.
